In the last years, doing the Home Office has become a growing trend. Even if they do it part-time, most homeowners decide to have a dedicated office space, located in a large walk-in closet, bedroom or other unused space.
Since this is certainly a cost-effective and time-saving alternative for several professions, we present here some electrical tips for you to have a successful experience.
Lighting: It’s not a secret that the lighting needed for office duties is very different from that required in a bedroom. You will need to check if you have adequate lighting for both general and localized tasks. This may require to add or simply upgrade fixtures.
New LED fixtures provide a great luminous flux with low energy consumption.
Receptacles: Most current desk jobs, even more, when related to digital media, require a lot of electronic devices to be connected. Make sure you have enough receptacles, located in the right places. This way you don´t need to use dangerous extension cords and multiple outlet fixtures.
And remember, you´re still at home, kids should be around, so always use tamper-resistant receptacles.
Power: Finally, you need to know that the branch circuit wires feeding the office outlets have enough capacity to provide the required power. Never upgrade a breaker with a bigger one if it’s tripping. That is a healthy signal that the protection system is working. If the circuits are being overloaded, maybe you need to get an electrical upgrade.
